- 1 lb 80/20 ground beef or lean ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped fine
- 1 medium green pepper, chopped fine
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- ½ cup ketchup
- 2 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 1 package slider buns (9 ct)
- 4 thick slices sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoon melted butter
- ½ tablespoon sesame seeds
Make the Sloppy Joe:
Sauté onions and pepper in 1 tablespoon canola oil in a large frying pan over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, until they begin to soften.
Move onions and peppers to outer edge of pan and increase heat to medium-high. Spread ground beef out in center of pan in an even layer and cook, undisturbed, for 5 minutes, or until meat begins to brown.
Season beef with salt and pepper, and flip over. Continue to cook, breaking meat apart into small pieces as you go with a wooden spoon or spatula, until meat is cooked through and no longer pink, about 2-3 minutes. If there is excess fat, you can drain it off at this point.
Reduce heat to medium-low and add in ketchup, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce and sugar. Cook 2-3 minutes until flavors are melded.
Make the Sliders:
Cut rolls in half, separating tops and bottoms. Place on a cookie sheet, and place under oven’s broiler on high for 1-3 minutes, until lightly toasted. Transfer to parchment lined sheet, Place sliced cheddar cheese on bottom buns, and set aside. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. (This step can be done while cooking your Sloppy Joe mixture).
Transfer cooked Sloppy Joe mixture evenly over cheddar cheese and bottom buns, using a slotted spoon leaving any grease and liquid behind.
Place on top buns, and brush the tops evenly with melted butter. Sprinkle over an even later of sesame seeds.
Bake in preheated oven on parchment lined sheet for 15-20 minutes, until just toasty and cheese is melted.
Serve with sliced or chopped pickles, if desired.
