Bright, fresh, and garlic-forward Lemon Dill Sauce that comes together in just 5 minutes with plenty of fresh dill and tangy lemon.
JUMP TO RECIPEThis quick, easy, and versatile Lemon Dill Sauce has the perfect balance of flavors, with vibrant dill, lemon, a touch of dijon mustard, and a creamy mixture of mayonnaise and sour cream. It's more flavorful than traditional tartar sauce, and works great with fish, potatoes, and more!
To make quick work of it, zest your lemon before juicing. This sauce only gets better as it sits, and can be made ahead and stored in the fridge to allow the dill to bloom in the sauce.
What readers are saying
"Super flavorful sauce for salmon. I love it for any potatoes also. Easy to make and is my go to lemon dill sauce. So delicious." -Laurie ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ingredients
- Sour cream or Greek yogurt.
- Mayonnaise. This helps keep the consistency of the sauce smooth and creamy, and balances the flavors well.
- Dijon mustard. A little goes a long way, and adds a little tang to the sauce.
- Fresh chopped dill. The fresh dill is a must, as it really makes the sauce, and tastes even better as it sits and blooms in the mixture.
- A couple cloves of fresh garlic, minced.
- The juice of half a lemon. Fresh lemon juice really adds a perfect, fresh and acidic pop to the sauce.
- Lemon zest. You can mix this in, and add a little extra on top to make the dip extra pretty.
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.

How to make this Lemon Dill Sauce recipe
Finely chop the dill, zest and juice the lemon, and mince the garlic. I prefer to use a garlic press for super-fine garlic and to make quick work of it.
Add all sauce ingredients to a small bowl, and whisk to combine. Using a whisk makes sure all the ingredients are well incorporated for a super smooth sauce.

Perfect Pairings
| Seafood Dinner | This creamy sauce goes great with salmon, crab cakes or white fish like cod, and is a great stand in for tartar sauce. |
| Delectable Dip | Use it as a dip for fries, falafel, or a veggie tray! |

Substitutions and Additions
This recipe can easily be adapted to work with what you have on hand. Here are some easy swaps and additions you can do to make this recipe your own.
- Use dried dill in place of fresh, if that's what you have on hand. Dried dill is stronger in flavor, so you would want to use 2 teaspoon of dried rather than 2 tablespoon fresh.
- Add some fresh chopped chives for an extra herby flavor.
- If you don't have dijon mustard, you can omit it.
- Plain greek yogurt is a great substitute for the sour cream.
Make-ahead and storing
This sauce's flavor is amplified by making it ahead. For best results, make it a few hours, and up to 2 days prior to serving. The sauce can be kept in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
